Planning Your North Georgia Getaway: Travel Tips and Itineraries

by | Jan 1, 2026

Every season has something new to offer in Blue Ridge! If you are planning a trip it can be hard to choose what time is best to come. At the end of the day, the best time to visit Blue Ridge is whenever you can! Here are some pros and cons for each season in the North Georgia Mountains:

  • Spring (March–May): Wildflowers, waterfalls at peak flow, and mild weather.
  • Fall (Late September–Early November): Stunning foliage, apple festivals, and cooler temps.
  • Summer (June–August): Great for lake activities and hiking but can be crowded.
  • Winter (December–February): Peaceful with occasional snow; ideal for cozy cabin stays.

Visiting Blue Ridge for a long weekend is always exciting. Here are some of my favorite stops that you can’t miss!

  • Be sure to rent a mountain cabin to get the full experience.
  • Hike to Long Creek Falls or Fall Branch Falls (maybe both)!
  • Visit Noontootla Creek Farms for guided fly fishing or sporting clays.
  • Check out Bear Claw Winery for a wine tasting.
  • Explore downtown Blue Ridge shops.
    • Check out the General Ledger & The Sweet Shoppe of the South while you are downtown!
    • Stop in at Oyster Bamboo and look through the viewing window to see artisans at work.
    • Take a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway!
  • Grab lunch and enjoy live music at The Mill at Noontootla.
  • Visit Merciers Orchard for apple picking and the best fried pies.
  • Check out Blue Ridge Creamery for the best ice cream sundaes around!
